2023 - The Foundation

# Release Notes
Last updated: 04/14/2026

A month-by-month summary of foundational features, advanced randomization capabilities, and security enhancements delivered to the ClinicalDataS platform in 2023.

Overview

The year 2023 was a foundational year for the ClinicalDataS platform. We focused on building robust, enterprise-grade capabilities from the ground up. Major milestones included the complete overhaul of the Randomization module (from configuration to advanced analytics), the launch of the Next-Generation Data Entry (View V5) experience, the implementation of strict Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), and a comprehensive modernization of the platform's core infrastructure for improved speed and stability.

For detailed, screen-by-screen instructions on how to use these features, please refer to the specific module documentation linked in the "Learn More" section.

🛡️ December 2023: System Administration & User Management

User Lifecycle ManagementComprehensive tools to add, unlock, restore, or remove user accounts securely.
Profile & SecurityQuick access to account settings, password changes, and audit login tracking.
Home Layout & NavigationA redesigned, scalable home layout and routing system for better platform navigation.

Key Updates

  • User Lifecycle Management: System Administrators gained full control over user accounts, with new capabilities to add new users, unlock locked accounts, restore removed users, and securely remove inactive accounts directly from the Administration panel.
  • Profile & Security: Introduced a convenient Profile Drawer for quick access to account details and password changes. Additionally, a centralized Audit Login log was added to track all system access for compliance and security monitoring.
  • Home Layout & Navigation: Rolled out a modernized Home layout with an improved sidebar and header, providing a more intuitive and scalable navigation experience across the entire platform.

🚀 November 2023: Next-Gen Data Entry (View V5) & Subject Management

AreaWhat it is for
Next-Gen Data EntryA streamlined, faster, and more intuitive interface for completing CRFs.
Integrated Issue TrackingDirect access to data discrepancies, history, and resolution workflows within the data entry screen.
Comprehensive Subject ManagementEnhanced tools to enroll, edit, reassign, and manage subject statuses from the Subject Matrix.

Key Updates

  • Next-Gen Data Entry: Launched "View V5", a completely redesigned data entry experience featuring a dynamic left-side navigation menu, faster form loading, and a more intuitive layout for completing Case Report Forms (CRFs).
  • Integrated Issue Tracking: Brought discrepancy management directly into the data entry workflow. Users can now view data history, track all Discrepancy Notes (DNs), and resolve issues without leaving the CRF screen.
  • Comprehensive Subject Management: Upgraded the Subject Matrix with powerful new actions. Study teams can now enroll new subjects, edit subject details, reassign subjects to different sites, and lock/unlock subject records with clear visual status indicators.

🎲 October 2023: Advanced Randomization Workflows & Analytics

AreaWhat it is for
Randomization AnalyticsVisual dashboards to track randomization progress by site, stratification, and open questions.
Request ManagementFormal, auditable workflows to request and approve un-blinding or un-randomization of subjects.
List Management & ExportAdvanced filtering, sorting, and exporting capabilities for randomized subject lists.

Key Updates

  • Randomization Analytics: Empowered study managers with new visual dashboards, including interactive pie charts and summary bars, to track randomization progress by study site, stratification factors, and specific open-ended questions.
  • Request Management: Introduced a secure, permission-gated workflow for handling "Un-Randomize" and "Un-Blind" requests. This includes detailed reason logging and formal approval/rejection modals to ensure strict regulatory compliance.
  • List Management & Export: Significantly upgraded the randomized subject list view with advanced filtering, custom sorting, editable fields, and one-click export functionality for seamless offline reporting.

⚙️ September 2023: Flexible Randomization Configuration

AreaWhat it is for
Study Group SetupIntuitive configuration of treatment arms, weights, and allocation ratios.
Stratification & Custom QuestionsTools to define complex stratification factors and custom open-ended questions for randomization.
Validation & SafetyAutomated checks to ensure randomization configurations are mathematically valid before generation.

Key Updates

  • Study Group Setup: Launched a user-friendly interface for defining study groups, allowing administrators to easily set treatment arm codes, allocation weights, and ensure a minimum of two groups are configured.
  • Stratification & Custom Questions: Added robust configuration pages for Stratification and custom "Open Questions," giving study designers the flexibility to tailor the randomization process to complex clinical trial protocols.
  • Validation & Safety: Implemented automated validation rules that prevent the generation of randomization lists if the configuration (e.g., ratios or weights) is invalid, preventing costly setup errors.

📱 August 2023: Mobile Routing & System Stability

AreaWhat it is for
Mobile CompatibilityFoundational routing updates to support future mobile application environments.
Data StabilityCore fixes to ensure data integrity during complex form interactions.

Key Updates

  • Mobile Compatibility: Implemented foundational routing updates to ensure the platform's navigation structure is fully compatible with mobile webview environments.
  • Data Stability: Resolved underlying data state issues to prevent errors during complex data entry interactions, ensuring a smoother and more reliable user experience.

🔐 July 2023: Enhanced Authentication & Security

AreaWhat it is for
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)An additional layer of security for user logins, manageable by system administrators.
Password Policy EnforcementServer-side validation to ensure all user passwords meet strict security standards.
Role & Permission RoutingSmarter navigation that restricts access to pages based on the user's assigned role.

Key Updates

  • Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Significantly upgraded platform security by introducing 2FA. System Administrators can now enable or disable 2FA for users, and end-users can securely link their accounts using Google Authenticator.
  • Password Policy Enforcement: Implemented strict, server-side password format validation to ensure all user credentials meet organizational security compliance standards.
  • Role & Permission Routing: Enhanced the navigation system to actively check user roles and permissions before rendering pages, preventing unauthorized access to restricted study areas.

🏗️ March 2023: Core Infrastructure & Performance Overhaul

AreaWhat it is for
Platform ModernizationUpgrading core build tools and removing legacy dependencies for a faster, more stable system.
New EDC Frontend FoundationLaying the groundwork for the next generation of the clinical data capture interface.

Key Updates

  • Platform Modernization: Executed a major upgrade of the platform's core infrastructure, removing outdated legacy packages and optimizing build configurations. This resulted in significantly faster load times and a more stable development environment.
  • New EDC Frontend Foundation: Successfully migrated to a new, modern frontend architecture, setting the stage for all the advanced features (like View V5 and Advanced Randomization) that would be rolled out later in the year.
